What is Diabetes?
Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the amount of glucose ( sugar) in the blood is too high because there is not enough of the hormone insulin.


Where doe's the sugar comes from?
Glucose or sugar comes from digestion of starchy foods like
Bread
Rice
Potatoes
Sugar
yam
Garri
Other sweet food

How is glucose utilized by the body?
There is a hormone produced by the pancreas called “insulin”
“ insulin” help the glucose to enter the cell where it used as fuel by the body

Increase glucose level in the blood, progressively damage
Eyes
Kidney
Nerves
Heart
Major arteries

Diabetes and your feet
The leading cause of hospitalization in a diabetic patient is foot injury. Diabetes may lead to poor circulation of blood and this will lead to loss of sensation in the feet

Examine your feet daily for blisters, cracks, scratches, scaling and discoloration. Pay particular attention to the areas between the toes.

Protect your feet from hot objects or extremes of temperature.
